are many different operating systems, and many different clients which
can actually get you on IRC. This page is an archive of IRC Clients

Windows
IRC Clients
There is a large
variety of Windows IRC Clients. Some are more popular than others.
The 32Bit Clients should be used with the Windows 95, Windows 98
and windows 2000/NT/XP machines, while the 16Bit clients should
be used with Windows 3.x, and Windows for Workgroups.
mIRC
mIRC is one of the most popular and well known Windows
IRC clients. It is shareware and, and was developed and copyrighted
by Khaled Mardam-Bey. mIRC is a highly configurable IRC client with
a friendly interface, and well equipped with option and tools. mIRC
offers full color text lines, DCC File Send and Get capabilities,
programmable aliases and popups, a remote commands and events handler,
and an easy to use switchbar for window navigation. On top of this,
mIRC will give you support for active hyperlinks (double click a
URL or email address to open your browser or email client) and sound
support, and... a lot, lot more. This is the recommended client
for any user, beginner or expert.

Visual IRC (ViRC)
Visual IRC, otherwise known as ViRC, is a scriptable next-generation
IRC client, currently available in 16-bit and 32-bit flavours. ViRC
combines top-notch functionality and features found in few other
IRC clients with unparalleled ease of use. In fact, many agree that
the 32-bit ViRC '97 is the best Internet communications tool ever
written.

XiRCoN
This client is for the more advanced Windows user.
It uses the TCL scripting language. This client is endlessly configurable
to meet most peoples needs.

Bitch X
Although originally
a linux client based on epic, this spectacular client has now been
ported to the Windows operating system, with versions that will
work on most platforms of Windows. It is highly configurable, but
lacks in the way of user interface and ease of use, so is not recommended
for the novice user.

Macintosh IRC Clients
Ircle
Ircle is the most popular MacOS client. There is
a lot of support built within the client, and online at their website.

MacIRC
This client
is probably the second most popular Mac IRC Client, although still
in betaMacIRC 0.9.6 requires Open Transport. If your computer doesn't
support Open Transport, version 0.9.4 is still available for download.
MacIRC is a shareware (US or AUS$20) IRC client.

Unix / Linux IRC Clients
Bitch X / ircII
BitchX is the
most well known and well loved IRC client for linux or unix users,
offering a large range of advanced functions for the more advanced
IRC user. Due to lack of graphical user interface and ease of use,
this is not recommeded for the novice user. Bitch X is based on
it's predecessor, ircII, and also comes in a windows flavour.
